Hello my dear students of 1º ESO C!!!!!!!
As promised, here you have the explanation of the PAST SIMPLE AFFIRMATIVE so that you can work on the first part of the grammar of Unit 8.
PAST SIMPLE AFFIRMATIVE
USE: We use the Past Simple to talk about past actions that have finished.
STRUCTURE: The structure of an affirmative sentece in Past Simple is the following:
SUBJECT + VERB IN PAST SIMPLE + COMPLEMENT
Example: "I went to the cinema yesterday"
(Fui al cine ayer)
"I played football last night"
(Jugué al fútbol anoche)
When we use a verb in Past Simple it's very important that we know the difference between Regular and Irregular verbs:
- Regular verbs: we add -ed to the verb. Example: play-played
We have to be careful with the changes of some verbs when we add -ed.
- Irregular verbs: We need to know the 2nd column of the irregular verbs list we have on the Workbook on pages 107 and 108 or in this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Nr36A_GXDnpuCzb8ihs53N_7RNaxv_ET/view?usp=sharing
NOTE: It's very important that you know most of the irregular verbs because you're going to need them for the grammar of following courses.
Typical expressions with the Past Simple: There are some time expressions that are used with the Past Simple, such as:
Examples:
- The athlete won a medal four years ago.
(La atleta ganó una medalla hace cuatro años.)
- He created the company in 1989.
(Él creó la empresa en 1989).
Last but not least, I hope you have understood the explanation in English, and if you haven't, here you have an explanation in Spanish:
If you have any doubts, don't hesitate to comment on this entry.
